Payton and Tanner’s summer wedding at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Panora, Iowa, with their reception at Lake Panorama National Golf Course, was all I needed to see to prove that yellow bridesmaid dresses are having such a well-deserved moment right now.

Payton and Tanner’s wedding day was the kind of day that makes me fall in love with my job all over again. It started at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Panora, which is just such a beautiful setting for a church ceremony. There’s something about a Catholic church wedding that feels so sacred and intentional. With the light coming through the windows, the traditions, the way everyone in the room knows something significant is happening. Payton and Tanner’s ceremony had all of that, and their yellow bridesmaid dresses added this warmth and joy to the whole thing that felt so right against the classic architecture of the church!

Lake Panorama National Golf Course Reception

From the ceremony, we moved to Lake Panorama National Golf Course for the reception, and the shift in energy was so fun to watch. The formality of the church gave way to this relaxed, celebratory vibe where everyone was just so happy to be there, celebrating these two. The golf course setting in the middle of an Iowa summer evening was gorgeous with the open sky, green grass everywhere, and those yellow bridesmaid dresses just kept showing up. I couldn’t get over the seamless aesthetic and flow of their day.

What I love most about days like this is how the details and the moments work together. The yellow was intentional, and it was stunning—but what made this wedding really special was Payton and Tanner and the people who showed up for them. The ceremony felt sacred, the reception felt celebratory, and the photos from the whole day feel cohesive and warm and completely theirs in a way that has nothing to do with a trend and everything to do with two people who really love each other.

I also got to shoot their engagement session before their wedding day, which made walking into their wedding feel so different than just showing up for a couple I had never met. Trust the color in person over what you see online.

Yellow reads very differently on a monitor than it does in real light. If you can see the dress in natural daylight before ordering, you’ll have a much better sense of how it’s actually going to look and photograph on the day.
